Stinkhorn
2020
Video. Dur. 3:30 mins.
First aired, BBC4, March 2020.
Stinkhorn is an animated short inspired by the lifecycle of a phallic mushroom that mimics the smell of decaying flesh and dung which it uses to attract flies to help disperse its spores.
Made in collaboration with Richard Whitby, the video combines puppetry, stop-motion animation and time-lapse sequences. A synth-vocal soundtrack starts with a hum quickly and slides out of tune. The effect is a microworld caught in an endless loop of growth, rot and re-growth.
