Organo Humano (2014)
Performance with Lawrence Lek.
Image: Oliver Matich

This first-time collaboration with artist Lawrence Lek followed a short residency at Liverpool Cathedral. The performance brought together Parkinson’s vocal performance inside Lek’s digital landscape of a burning cathedral.

The music imagines Liverpool Cathedral as an inflated walrus on its back, flippers spread to form the transept, and a gaseous sound escaping from its mouth upwards towards God. The project took inspiration from Liverpool’s association with the walrus (via John Lennon) while drawing from the image of the famously over-stuffed walrus displayed at London’s Horniman Museum.

2-minute excerpt of music performed with live vocals at 24 Kitchen Street, Liverpool, November 2014, as part of ‘The Post-Human Gospel’ curated by Nathan Jones.
